August Birthday Flowers

The flower of August is the gladiolus!  Named after the gladiators of ancient Rome, it is also known as the "sword lily" due to its uniquely-shaped leaves.  The gladiolus symbolizes remembrance, infatuation, strength of character, faithfulness, and honor.  In ancient times, they were also used by herbalists to treat physical ailments.  The gladiolus is a striking and dramatically beautiful addition to any floral arrangement!
